Allow Me To Put In A Good Word In For MSI.

I know it's "uncool" to think that MSI are a decent band who plays decent music, but I personally found it irresistibly catchy when my cousin introduced them to me in July. That's right. Before I had caught wind of the Gerard and LynZ rumors, I liked them. Perhaps not too long before, but it should make a difference in Veritavenom's idea that MCR fans only like MSI because Gerard and LynZ are man and wife.

I was very skeptical of that rumor of Gerard and LynZ dating, even by the time I saw them on August 29, in Holmdel, NJ at PR. But I thought they were very energetic live, perhaps better live than in their studio albums. Little Jimmy Urine got the crowd going at 100 MPH.

As for their lyrics, Veritavenom has completely ignored my statement on shock value. Cradle Of Filth use it, Marilyn Manson uses it, so why can't Mindless Self Indulgence use it without being called out? Of course, that would scar VV's reputation.

^ From the show I went to.

^ Same show, but filming Gerard during MSI's set.

You know, probably the biggest reason that Gerard doesn't object to Mindless Self Indulgence's music on principle is that, after meeting the band, he knows that Jimmy Urine's lyrics don't express any deeply-held beliefs. Though I'll admit, Jimmy Urine has to be a little insane to have such an onstage persona.

I don't hate MSI. I just think that their musical message is darker and more violent than say, MCR. It could be an age thing. I'm well over 18. I don't dig much speed metal either. But, back in the day when I was your age, I did love the Violent Femmes, Decendants, and Black Flag, and I'm sure my mom hated that.

You are right about going out and getting a super salty pretzel during their show, I would just prefer to not promote their message with my money.

Thanks for the other view, sometimes I forget not everybody is my age. :}

Thank FUCK!!!! I have been planning a similar post for a while now.

My boyfriend loves MSI and I think some of their songs are good. I don't take their lyrics seriously for one second. To me, they're a lot like the Bloodhound Gang in that a lot of the lyrics are just a joke.

The whole thing about people thinking that MSI hates women makes me laugh because I'm thinking "are these people blind?" There's two strong women in the band!!!

Back to their lyrics again, lyrics are like poetry and small novels. It's all about art and seld expression. It may be fact or fiction. I look at MSI like I look at the author of American Psycho, Ellis. Ellis' book has so much violence, racism, rape, torture, etc...but I seriously doubt that Ellis stands by those horrible things. It's just telling a story and being creative. I'm a writer and I've written some horrible things...it doesn't mean that those subjects I write about are part of my core values.

A lot of the older bands that MCR have loved had negative lyrics...lovely how no one pays attention to that.

What you write about CAN be different than how you live and think. It's called creativity and imagination.

Jennicula - age plays a very important role in musical taste. That's why so many parents despise rap music. They think that it spreads a bad message, when really, they're overlooking what kids and teens like about it.

And seeing as MCR are headlining, it's their message you're mainly promoting.

You're right. I actually LOVE psychological thrillers/slasher books and did love American Psycho (the book, not the movie - it could've been better) but that doesn't mean I condone sadism in my real life.

Age is tricky. When you're young, lyrics are a joke and the music is good. When you get older, you actually start to listen to the lyrics and wonder "What the hell were they thinking when they wrote that. Is this what they really believe?" Whoa Nelly!

I'll try to be more open minded. Man, never thought I'd be an old fart!

Jennicula,

I don't think I can agree with you on the age thing. As I've gotten older I've realized that the majority of lyrics out there are just jokes. I took a lot of stuff more seriously as a kid.

Well, as a 5 year old, jennicula would probably not know what to think of lyrics like that, and would probably take them very seriously.

At 5 I don't think I would've understood the lyrics. At 13 I would've sung along just to say the "dirty" words. Any older than that, I choose other words to sing to.

I'm sorry, I'm a total loser but seriously, what song is MSI playing at the very end of the second video? With the ticking sound in the background, thanks :)

I'm not sure what song it is...I still haven't bought all the albums, though I'm well on my way.
